Sabbath
on the Sea of Galilee began for me with a short stroll along the esplanade
of Sea of Galilee after another
enjoyable breakfast.
At 10.00
am we left for the Mt of Blessing (Beatitudes).
The Mountain where Jesus shared the 8 beatitudes has now a Franciscan
church on it. The church is surrounded by beautiful gardens overlooking the Sea
of Galilee.
After a
tranquil visit to the Mt of Blessings we proceeded to a beautiful spot on
Capernaum where St Peter’s mother in law lived. Again there is another church
on the spot. Yes again built over St Peter’s mother-iin-law’s house. This time
there were renovations going on, so it was very noisy and uninviting.
Then it
was lunch at St Peter’s Restaurant. I had a St Peter’s fish (Tilapia fish), the
one with a coin in the mouth that Jesus asked Peter to get out of the Sea of
Galilee and pay the temple tax with. Mine had a new Israeli shekel in its mouth.
Nice fish to eat.
Then it
was time for a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. A really wonderful experience.
The boat took us to a Genezerat kibbutz. The Kibbutz had a lovely little museum
with a 2000 year old boat. Unfortunately, it wasn’t in sailing condition. The
boar does need a bit of renovation before it is sea worthy. But, for 2000 years
old, there was enough of it to make out the shape.
After
the boat ride and museum it was time to return to the hotel for some free time.
